This position is located at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division, in Crane IN. The selectee provides technical expertise in the design, development, production, repair test and/or failure analysis of elastomer system and subsystem prototype and production products including formulating elastomer material including rubber and polyurethane, and molding elastomer products used on Navy surface ships, submarines, and in other military applications.
Responsible for the development of elastomer material used in the fabrication of various molded products. Recommends design changes for materials or processes, such as recommending a different type of material, mold design or test procedure to improve reliability and to eliminate failure mechanisms. The selectee utilizes various types of molding processes in the production of elastomer products, including transfer pot, compression, injection and extrusion. Originates and develops concepts and processes, including the manufacture of prototype products for which no drawings or documentation exist. Implements and tests new design concepts with high level design engineers and technicians. The selectee interfaces with customers, engineers, quality assurance specialists, technicians, and other support personnel to provide project coordination, planning, and estimating.
Applicants must have one or more years of progressively related experience. Examples of this experience include: Experience in methods and techniques of engineering and elastomer materials properties for various types of rubber, polyurethane, and/ or experience in injection, compression, transfer and design pot molding techniques.
Salary: $52,252.00 - $74,628.00 /year
