The project accountant is responsible for accounting tasks associated with programs funded by donations and other counterparts. The project accountant is responsible for applying accounting procedures to program structures, cycles, and needs. The position involves reconciliation, processing and verification of financial records of projects, prepare monthly bills of donors and the management team, and preparation of project financial reports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Review reports on the ground and supporting documents, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable and other financial data from field operations; Prepares journal entries and invoices, and positions in the accounting system; Prepares monthly financial reports and project provides assistance in the interpretation of financial reports to program staff and field; Prepares assigned financial reports for the quarterly program and / or completion of the program reconciles the accounts affected general ledger each month to communicate and coordinate with field offices, providing support HQ and by answering financial questions from field staff, investigate the issues / problems, makes adjustments and corrections in the financial system approved required; Monitors actual expenses against budget and provides analysis of variance, as required Prepares assigned yearly audit schedules; Performs various tasks and other tasks. Trip to Afghanistan may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field. Minimum 3 years experience in accounting required by international accounting development. Grant and contract experience required, knowledge of basic technical and operational requirements of government funding agencies (eg USAID, USDA, State Department, etc.) Excellent MS Excel required; user experience accounting software required. Quickbooks and / or knowledge of Navision, a privileged experience, knowledge of grants and standard terms of the cooperation agreement and its application to the billing process is necessary. Ability to work with others, meet deadlines, and respond to changing priorities. Excellent skills in written and verbal communication and strong organizational skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills required. Ability to work independently, take initiative set priorities and see projects to completion. High-centered service orientation required command of English, strong language skills in French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Dari or Pashto strongly preferred.
