You will find the role has aspects that require you to be very "practical" - site surveys, method statements, discussions, site visits, etc. However, it is also a strategic element for the part covering issues such that workforce planning (usually involving editors subcontracting), complete project management, reviews the progress made with the prime contractor and overall involvement in the operational side of the company. Ideally, the successful candidate will have experience gained all these tasks in a project management / contract management function in the construction industry. As an absolute minimum you should have experience of multi-site management and a proven track record of bringing construction projects in time and on budget at least, if not under it.

It is essential that you understand how to control and develop relationships with both the prime contractor and subcontractors as to understand everything that the profitability of your employer is your main concern. It is also essential that you have had experience on the side of installation at the site before moving to a part o type of management.
