UNICEF, the world's leading organization working for the rights of children, seeks a Senior Advisor, Gender and Human Rights Division in its policies and practices in New York.
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director, Gender, rights and civic engagement (GRACE), the incumbent is responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, advisory support and guidance to ensure that the principles and the practice of gender equality and human rights-based approach (HRBA) are institutionalized, actively pursued and supported in the UNICEF advocacy, policy, programming and humanitarian work, and form the basis of the program fairness of the organization's medium-term Strategic Plan. The incumbent is required to provide the intellectual and strategic leadership and act as an advocate, leader and pioneer in best practices and innovative actions to ensure compliance of UNICEF's mandate to promote, protect and help achieve the rights of all children.
The incumbent undertakes high-level advocacy both within and outside the organization, and led to the creation of strategic partnerships, the development of normative standards and guidance, resource mobilization and development of organizational capacity and staff at all levels of UNICEF to mainstream gender equality and human rights principles of universality, participation, non discrimination and accountability in all policy UNICEF's advocacy, programming, humanitarian work and communication, and its administrative, financial and managerial. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for administrative and management direction of the Gender and Human GRACE team in the section in the Division of UNICEF policy and practice.
Qualification:
Advanced university degree that includes specific content relating to gender equality and human rights. Specific study of children's rights and gender in the context of child development is an asset. At least 13 years of experience in international development work, with at least seven worked in a minimum of country contexts too low or moderate incomes. Proven and internationally recognized expertise in both the areas of gender equality and human rights, preferably with an emphasis on children's rights. Experience proved effective integration of gender, disability and / or indigenous and minority issues in the work of development organizations or similar. Experience in leadership and management programs in developing countries an asset. Fluency in English and proficiency in another UN language required.
