JOB SUMMARY: The Western Area Power career opportunities in the rapidly Administrationoffers, the electric utility industry dynamics. We market federally produced hydropower from more than 50 power plants in central and western United States and operate and maintain over 17,000 miles of transmission lines high voltage. West is one of the four administrations of marketing power in the Department of Energy.
Responsible for the application of advanced theories, concepts and principles while providing consulting engineering and expert advice on the proposed plans and drawings of electrical engineering projects, including high voltage (above 69 kV) power system protection, equipment and facility upgrades, and other activities for a wide range of power plant system in a large regional area. This responsibility includes four major areas: 1) design, evaluate, inspect, and additions of the Commission, replacements and modifications to equipment and facilities, 2) Serve as a project manager to assess, recommend and implement business practices, including administrative, financial and contractual oversight, and provide oversight in electrical engineering related engineering disciplines involved in the design and construction of facilities;3) Provide expertise in assessing, recommending and incorporating innovative engineering ideas and analyze the ramifications for facilities designed to meet the new requirements and demanding performance caused by technological advances and government regulations, and 4) Provide engineering expertise to identify appropriate solutions and make decisions for critical changes or major controversial issues involving programs, predictive and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting techniques and operations support. In each of these areas, the employee has full technical responsibility, and is considered an expert and authority in the area of his / her functional.
